SI Utility designs and fabricates steel power delivery structures, including utility poles, substation steel, and data center solutions, for utility companies across the U.S. Our products are manufactured in Texas. SI Utility began in 2022 as a division of Smith Industries and officially launched as its own company in June 2025.

Our leadership and operations team brings more than 100 years of combined experience in the steel power delivery structure industry. As an ISO 9001:2015 certified manufacturer, we focus on first-time quality, traceability, and continuous improvement on every project.

At SI Utility, you'll work alongside experienced people in the industry, using high-quality equipment and tools, with the training and support to build a career in a growing field.

The Materials Manager owns SI Utility's inventory: what is on hand, where it is located, what job it is allocated to, and how it moved each week. The role centers on accuracy, availability, and heat and lot traceability in the inventory system, and works closely with purchasing and the production floor.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintain accurate on-hand inventory of plate and fasteners by heat or lot, size, and location in SOS Inventory
  • Receive material by matching pack slips and mill test reports (MTRs) to purchase orders before put-away; keep holds and rejects out of available inventory
  • Manage put-away and locations across the plate yard, shaft racks, flange rack, and fastener cage
  • Allocate material to jobs and work orders, and manage unallocated stock
  • Record material issued to production by heat, quantity, and date, and correct over-issues the same day
  • Record transfers, job reallocations, returns to stock, and adjustments as they happen
  • Track poles at the galvanizer until they return or ship, and reconcile returned weight
  • Track purchase orders and site deliveries for outsourced anchor bolts and AB cages, keeping them out of on-hand inventory
  • Perform weekly cycle counts and post variance adjustments with a reason
  • Identify aged, excess, and remnant material and recommend a disposition
  • Maintain heat traceability so every shop heat ties to an MTR; keep material with missing certs on hold
  • Reconcile receipts to open purchase orders, coordinating with purchasing
  • Pull five weekly SOS Inventory reports (inventory, WIP allocation, receiving, issuance, and movement), mark exceptions, and review them with the Director of Operations
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements

Experience and Education

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3+ years in inventory, warehouse, or stores in steel fabrication, poles, structural steel, or heavy manufacturing

  • Able to read an MTR and match a heat number to a plate or a lot number to a fastener
  • Able to pull and interpret system inventory reports
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

U.S. Equal Opportunity Employment Information (Completion is voluntary)

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

You are being given the opportunity to provide the following information in order to help us comply with federal and state Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action record keeping, reporting, and other legal requirements.

Completion of the form is entirely voluntary. Whatever your decision, it will not be considered in the hiring process or thereafter. Any information that you do provide will be recorded and maintained in a confidential file.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 4/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
